Dukan Diet Day 17: Slow and Steady

I almost forgot to post today! Sorry I’m so late! Things are still crazy busy with work and tonight is the first night in weeks that I actually shut my computer down before 7pm. Being this busy certainly great for the bank account, but my poor little brain (and laundry!) is beginning to suffer. So it might not be such a shock that I nearly forgot – I’m having to write this post on my phone. Forced out of laziness, that is.

So here we are at Day 17.

This is officially the longest I’ve made it on a diet in years. And I’m not showing any signs of stopping either. I haven’t had any reason to quit. Compared to any other diet I’ve been on, this one is a freaking breeze. The Dukan Diet rocks. I’ve had absolutely no problems, save for the first few days of cravings. No counting, no weighing, no starving! AND I get to lose weight? It seems unreal, but the results are speaking for themselves!

Speaking of results, it’s finally starting to slow down. I weighed in at 247.8 this morning, a loss of .6lbs since Monday. I’m really happy with that. As nice as it would be to drop all of my weight fast, I’m super paranoid that my skin won’t be able to keep up. Anything more than 2 lbs a weeks is way too fast as far as I’m concerned. On the flip side, I wouldn’t be thrilled if it slowed down too much. I’d like to have a beer before 2013.

And beer is really the only thing I’m missing. I don’t seem to be missing carbs that much – I have my moments, but they are fleeting. Beer seems to be the most difficult craving, but really only because of the brew my husband has going. The smell of fresh brewing beer has the same effect on me as the smell of baking bread. Mmmmmm. It’s going to be a struggle to live with it, but in 3 weeks it’ll be kegged, and I won’t have that problem any more. Until then, I’m just going to have to stay away from the closet it’s stored in.

My birthday is next week, and usually it’s a big day. It’s pretty much expected that there’s a big bash, but not this year. I had been toying with the idea of going out for dinner, but finally decided to be a good girl and stay on plan. I’ll probably be up to my ass in work anyway, if the last couple weeks are any prediction. I just need to keep reminding myself that this is going to take a long time as it is. I can sacrifice one birthday.

Food: Two new discoveries. On the weekend, we ran across a tiny little spice market tucked away in a weird part of the city. We decided to check it out, and holy crap! This place was stocked from floor to ceiling with spices this cute little Indian couple package themselves. And it wasn’t just the usual suspects one usually associates with Indian Cuisine – it was everything. And it was all very fresh. My eyes were practically popping out of my head. Have you ever seen a 5 lb bag of garlic powder before?? They had a whole shelf full. Crazy!

I knew I had to buy something, but couldn’t think of anything off the top of my head that I needed, so I settled for a bag of chives and a bag of onion flakes, thinking that it would be great to make a sour cream dip with. I got them home, after paying a whole $4 for both of them, and realized that since it was a protein day, I didn’t actually have anything to dip into a dip. Whoops.

So instead, I decided to mix it into my cottage cheese.

Oh man. By far the freshest, most flavorful spices I’ve ever had. I’m going to go back in a couple weeks and seriously stock up with anything that sounds like it might work in cottage cheese, since I seem to be going through a lot of it.

Well, my phone is dying, so this is where it’s going to end.
